Why This Matters: NAMM conventions are a great place to meet up with colleagues and clients, and in Carl Tatz's case, inform and teach both those new to the pro audio world and seasoned professionals how they can greatly up their control room monitoring.

Nashville, TN: TEC Award-Winning studio designer and leading expert on studio monitoring Carl Tatz of Carl Tatz Design® LLC began his 2019 NAMM lecture series Secrets of Near-Field Monitoring by hosting five users of the multiaward-winning PhantomFocus™ System from across the country singing its praises during the two-day lecture event.

In attendance were leading members of the professional audio community and clients of Carl Tatz Design including, Mark Abrams from Vaughan Music Studios; Columbus, OH, Bob Bullock of Cool Springs Mix, Nashville, TN; Richard Furch of mix Haus, Los Angeles, CA; Jimmy Hill of Amplified Wax, Spokane, WA; and Mike Kolar from Soundscape Studios, Chicago, IL.

Robb Wenner, head of Marketing and Artist Relations for Auralex® Acoustics preceded the Tatz lecture presenting an informative companion tutorial on control room acoustic treatments while displaying the Auralex® Pro MAX Studio 6 and Stand-Mounted LENRD Bass Traps portable acoustic modules.

After completing several sessions at AES@NAMM, Tatz also participated in a panel discussion moderated by award-winning journalist Dan Daley titled Home (Studio) is Where the Hits Are as part of the NAMM TEC Tracks program. Studio designers Eddie Veale and Steven Klein joined in the conversation. Post NAMM show, Tatz visited multi-award-winning engineer Dave Pensado at his studio in Los Angeles and snapped a shot oalongside Dave at his Carl Tatz Edition™ Argosy Dual 15 Console with Dave sitting in his PhantomFocus eChair™. After swinging by Capitol Studios and getting a personal tour from legendary VP and studio manager (and fellow Rhode Islander) Paula Salvatore, Tatz moved on to Laurel Canyon and Warren Huart's studio, where he was invited to be interviewed as part of Huart's TEC Award-winning "Produce Like a Pro" blog.
